Tee-Ball/Baseball

baseball

The Lansdowne Boys and Girls Club (LBGC) is running this year’s tee-ball and baseball programs in cooperation with the Aldan Youth Club (AYC). Due to current Covid restrictions, the fields we normally use in Lansdowne are not available so we’re grateful to be using Aldan’s fields this year.

Please click here to view LBGC’s current Covid-19 Guidelines, developed in consultation with AYC.

Opening Day is Saturday, May 1, with tee-ball games in the morning and baseball games in the afternoon and evening. Practices will begin in April. See separate Tee-Ball and Baseball details below, and email baseball@lansdownebgc.org if you have any questions.

Tee-Ball

  • Co-ed for ages 4-6 (and some 7’s as appropriate); hitting off tee or coach-pitch as appropriate, with modified rules to encourage full participation
  • Season dates: May 1 – June 12 (except for Memorial Day weekend), with possibility of extending to June 19 for make-up games as needed; Picture Day is Saturday, June 5
  • Weekly games on Saturday mornings (9, 10 or 11 am) at Schwenke Field in Aldan (106 Bonsall Avenue) – NOTE: You’re encouraged to enter Aldan’s baseball complex via Shisler Ave (turning from Woodlawn Ave, across from the Aldan Elementary School field). You’ll drive right into a big parking lot next to the field. You can also enter via Bonsall Ave, but there’s less parking on that side. Please do not park on Sycamore Avenue.
  • No tee-ball practices once games begin on May 1, but we will hold one or two practices beforehand; practices will be held at the fields behind Ardmore Avenue Elementary School. Street parking is available on Essex or Berkley Avenues.
  • Make-up games may be scheduled on a weekday evening or on Saturday, June 19, as needed (it’s possible, though unlikely, that games will be made up on Sundays).
  • Equipment: All players must have their own gloves. In light of Covid-related concerns, players are also encouraged – if possible – to have their own bats and batting helmets, but shared bats and helmets are provided if not (see LBGC’s Covid-19 Guidelines for details on equipment cleaning/sanitizing protocols). Baseball cleats are not necessary for tee-ball.
  • Uniforms: All players will receive a full uniform, including shirt, pants (grey, with elastic waist band), socks (matching color) and hat; team names are based on Minor League teams.
  • Registration fee ($30) includes full uniform.

Baseball

  • Co-ed for ages 7-12, with two age divisions: Juniors (7-9) and Seniors (10-12); machine-pitch for Juniors and machine-pitch and/or player-pitch for Seniors; Juniors will include teams from LBGC, Aldan Youth Club and Collingdale Youth Club; Seniors will include teams from LBGC and Aldan Youth Club
  • Season dates: May 1 – June 12 (except Memorial Day weekend), with post-season games (playoff or mini-tournament) through June 19 and possibility of extending to June 26 for make-up games as needed; Picture Day is Saturday, June 5
  • One or two games a week, on Saturday afternoons/evenings (up to 10 pm for Seniors) and Wednesday (between 6 and 9 pm), Thursday (between 6 and 9 pm) and Friday evenings (between 6 and 10 pm); make-up games may be scheduled on any weekday evening as needed, or as part of a doubleheader on Saturdays (it’s possible, though unlikely, that games will be made up on Sundays)
  • Practices will typically be held on Monday and Tuesday evenings between 6 and 9 pm, especially before and early in the season; teams may or may not practice during weeks when multiple games are scheduled.
  • All games and practices will be held at the Aldan fields (106 Bonsall Avenue), with the exception of 1-2 games at Veterans Park in Collingdale (Juniors only) – NOTE: You’re encouraged to enter Aldan’s baseball complex via Shisler Ave (turning from Woodlawn Ave, across from the Aldan Elementary School field). You’ll run right into a big parking lot next to the field. You can also enter via Bonsall Ave, but there’s less parking on that side. Please do not park on Sycamore Avenue.
